News – Recent Changes in Tariff Rates

The closure of Hazelwood Power Station had a major impact on energy supplies. Feed-in tariffs increased from 5.5 cents per kW to at least 11.3 cents.

Australian companies have introduced enhanced monitoring systems. Battery storage technology and pricing have been improving, enabling a shift of the peak 5-10pm load. An estimated 21,000 batteries were installed in Australia in 2017.

Electricity and gas prices also rose steeply in 2017, and threats of blackouts made people nervous.

All these factors have created a strong push for renewable energy in Victoria.
